In the United States, approximately 264 thousand people obtained lawful permanent resident status in the first quarter of 2018. More than fifty percent have adjusted their status while within the United States, and 47 percent entered as new arrivals, US Department of Homeland Security web-site reports.

About 43 percent of new lawful permanent resident were from Mexico, Cuba, China, India, the Dominican Republic, and the Philippines.

About 44 percent of lawful permanent resident in in the first quarter of 2018 obtained status as immediate relatives of U.S. citizens and an additional 18 percent obtained status under a family preference category.

During 2017, DHS recorded more than 180 million nonimmigrant admissions to the United States, DHS says in its statement.
